Problem
Setting CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_TODO_TOOLS=1 only gets you halfway. The tools come back as deferred tools: Claude sees their names but not their instructions, so it rarely uses them.

Brings the task list back to Claude Code on newer models.
Newer Claude Code releases switched the todo and task tools off on current models, so the checklist Claude used to tick off step by step is gone and Ctrl+T shows nothing. The fix sets the opt-in flag from the changelog and adds one rule to CLAUDE.md so Claude actually loads the tools. Paste one prompt into Claude Code, or run the script for macOS, Linux or Windows.

Two changes: the flag in settings.json, and a short CLAUDE.md rule that loads TaskCreate, TaskUpdate and TaskList through tool search on any job with three or more steps. The bash and PowerShell installers write identical files, back up everything they touch, keep symlinks, line endings and BOMs intact, and refuse to edit an invalid settings.json.

- The quickstart is a prompt you paste into Claude Code. No clone, no download.
- The installers are safe to run again: they only write when something changes and back up every file with a timestamp.
- The README states the cost as well: about 2k tokens of context per session and an occasional reminder from Claude Code.
